A line of spheres, usually increasing in size, on a flexible cord with a ring or handle at the end. They are inserted one bead at a time and — this is the part people are actually curious about — withdrawn slowly, which is where most of the sensation comes from.
Why the shape works
Each bead has a narrower section behind it, so the muscle closes and then opens again with every sphere. That rhythm is the sensation, and it is quite different from a plug, which is inserted once and stays.
Drawing them out slowly during orgasm is the classic use, and the reason the cord matters more than the beads.
🚫 The retrieval ring is not optional
Never use anything anally that does not have a flared base, a ring or a handle. The rectum draws objects inward, and a string of beads with nothing to hold is the single most common cause of A&E visits in this category.
Every product on this shelf has one. Do not improvise with anything that does not.
Check the cord too: it should be firm enough to pull the beads back without stretching. A thin, over-flexible cord is a design fault.
Rigid or flexible
Flexible silicone beads on a soft spine bend with the body. Easier for a first attempt, and more comfortable to wear while moving. The Black & Silver Korg is sold specifically as an initiation set.
Rigid beads transmit sensation more directly but must match your anatomy — they cannot adapt. The Metal Hard beads are the heavy version, and metal holds temperature, which some people warm or chill deliberately.
Sizing, honestly
Bead diameter matters more than total length. Start smaller than you think:
The cheapest — Addicted Toys 22 cm, a straightforward starter.
One step up — Intense Max.
Mid-range — Mr Play beads with plug at 26.7 cm.
Higher up — Mr Play L at 42.6 cm, and the XL at 52.5 cm.
The top — the LELO Soraya Beads, which vibrates.
A few vibrate: the Rocks Off Petite Sensations and the Satisfyer Love Beads.
Lubricant and cleaning
A lot of lubricant, applied to every bead and reapplied. The rectum produces none of its own. Water-based with silicone beads; a thicker anal formula lasts longer.
Silicone is non-porous and washes properly. Cords and joins need attention — that is where residue hides.
Nearby: plugs, dilators for graduated training, and the full anal shelf.
How many beads should go in?
As many as are comfortable, and no more. There is no target.
Should I pull them out fast?
Slowly is the usual advice, and fast can be genuinely uncomfortable. Experiment gently.
Do I need to douche first?
A preference, not a requirement. Plain lukewarm water, low volume, twenty minutes before.
Can beads be used vaginally?
Some can, but they are designed for the rectum. Anything used anally must be washed thoroughly before going anywhere else.
