Shape rather than electronics: dildos where the design does the work. Silicone accounts for the great majority of the shelf.

Why silicone is the default here

Silicone is non-porous. It can be washed properly, boiled, and shared between partners with a condom. It holds body heat, it does not degrade the way TPE does, and it has no smell. That is why a mid-priced Fun Factory outlasts several cheaper toys and why almost everything but the budget end of this shelf is made of it.

The one incompatibility to remember: silicone lubricant bonds to silicone toys and permanently damages the surface. Use water-based lubricant. If you want the longevity of silicone lube for another reason, a hybrid is the safer middle ground — but water-based remains the rule with silicone toys.

Stainless steel is the other material here, in the Satisfyer Pure Gravity 2 and the Star Force range. Steel is heavy, entirely non-porous, and holds temperature — you can warm or chill it, which nothing else on this shelf does.

Suction cups and what they are for

A suction base sticks to any flat, smooth, non-porous surface — tiles, glass, a hard floor. It frees both hands and allows positions that hand-holding does not. The Romp Piccolo at 14 cm and the Fun Factory Amor both have one.

A suction base is also what makes a dildo harness-compatible in most cases, so it is the feature to look for if a strap-on is the plan.

Double-ended shapes

A good part of the shelf is double-ended. Two uses: shared penetration between two people, or a single user who wants a firm handle at the other end. The Fun Factory Share Lite is designed for the first; the Intense Rick Dual gives you a rounded tip at one end and a tapered one at the other.

Fantasy and textured shapes

Epic and Mythology account for a large part of the range and make textured, non-anatomical shapes — the Epic Python and the Mythology Dion among them. These are sized generously and usually sold in S/M/L. Read the insertable measurement rather than the total length; the difference is the base.

Note on the shelf name

A handful of listings filed here do include a motor, so check the individual product if the absence of vibration matters to you. For deliberately powered shapes, G-spot vibrators and the wider vibrators shelf are the right places.

Do I need a base?

For anal use, yes — a flared base is not optional, it is what stops the toy going where it cannot be retrieved. For vaginal use it is a convenience.

Is a bigger dildo better?

No, and starting too large is the most common reason people give up. Girth matters more than length for comfort, and warming up matters more than either.

How do I clean silicone?

Warm water and unscented soap. Non-motorised solid silicone can also be boiled for a few minutes or run through a dishwasher without detergent.

Will the suction cup hold on any wall?

Only smooth non-porous surfaces. Tiles and glass work; painted plaster, wood and textured surfaces do not.
