A monodose is a single-use sachet: enough lubricant for one occasion, sealed, and the least expensive way there is to buy lubricant.

They exist for three reasons, and it is worth knowing which one applies to you before buying a boxful.

Why buy sachets rather than a bottle

  • To try before committing. A 1.5 ml Pjur sachet costs a small fraction of what the bottle does. Finding out whether a formula suits you is the cheapest it will ever be.
  • To carry. A sachet fits in a wallet or a washbag and does not leak, does not need a cap, and does not announce itself.
  • For hygiene. Nothing is reopened, nothing sits half-used. This is why they are standard in clinical settings.

Where they are a poor choice is regular use at home. Per millilitre they are the most expensive lubricant in the shop.

What is available in sachet form

Almost the full range, which is the useful part:

Pjur alone accounts for a large share of them, which makes this the easiest place to compare that brand's formulas side by side without buying six bottles.

Sizes

Between 1.5 ml and 6 ml. The smaller sachets are silicone-based, which goes further per millilitre; the 5–6 ml ones are water-based, which does not.

One sachet is genuinely one use. Plan for two if anything anal is involved.

Reading the base before you buy

The same rules apply as anywhere else, and sachets make them easier to forget because the packaging is small.

  • Water-based — safe with latex and with every toy material. The default.
  • Silicone-based — safe with latex, damages silicone toys.
  • Oil-based — degrades latex condoms.

The base is printed on each sachet, and stated on each product page here.

Frequently asked questions

How much is in one?

Between 1.5 ml and 6 ml depending on the product. That is one use for most purposes and slightly less than one for anal use.

Can I keep one in my wallet?

Better than a condom can, since there is no latex to degrade. Heat still shortens shelf life, and every sachet carries an expiry date.

Are they cheaper than a bottle?

No — considerably more expensive per millilitre. They are cheaper to try, which is a different thing.

Which one should I start with?

A Pasante Light sachet if you have no preference. If you are comparing formulas, buy several different Pjur sachets rather than one bottle.

Where do I buy the full size?

the full lubricant range for everything, or water-based for the safest default.
