Cleaning products for toys, plus a few for bodies. The honest starting point is that warm water and unscented soap handles most of what people buy a cleaner for.

When soap and water is enough

Non-porous materials — silicone, glass, stainless steel, ABS plastic — can be washed properly. Warm water, unscented soap, rinse, dry fully. Solid silicone with no electronics can also be boiled for a few minutes, which genuinely sterilises it.

That covers most toys, most of the time.

When a dedicated cleaner earns its price

Three situations:

Porous materials. TPR, TPE and jelly hold moisture and cannot be sterilised. A cleaner reduces what remains. The pjur Toy Cleaner and Skins Cleanse are made for this.

Shared toys. Between partners, or between anal and vaginal use. A condom over the toy is the other answer, and often the better one.

Motorised toys that cannot be submerged. A spray reaches where you cannot run water. The Eros All Purpose and Stimul8 Hygienic are the value options.

Alcohol-free is worth looking for

Alcohol dries silicone over time and makes the surface tacky. It also stings on skin, which matters if the product touches you as well as the toy — several here are labelled for both.

Look for alcohol-free on anything you will use frequently.

Drying is the step people skip

Moisture is the actual problem. A toy washed perfectly and put away damp is worse off than one wiped and dried properly. Air-dry fully before storage, and store toys separately rather than in a drawer touching each other — some materials react with each other over time.

A cloth bag keeps dust off without trapping moisture, which a sealed plastic box does not.

Body products on this shelf

The supplier files intimate washes and douches here too — the Femintimate cleanser, the Secretplay serum, and douches up to the Bathmate Hydrodouche.

Those are for bodies, not toys, and they are not interchangeable. Intimate cleaning covers them properly. Note that intimate washes are for external use — the vagina cleans itself and washing inside it disrupts the balance that keeps it healthy.

Do I really need a toy cleaner?

For non-porous toys used by one person, no. For porous materials, shared toys, or motors that cannot be washed, yes.

Can I use antibacterial hand soap?

Better than nothing, but it is harsher than needed and can irritate. Unscented mild soap is the better default.

How do I clean a toy that cannot get wet?

Wipe with a cleaner on a damp cloth, then a clean damp cloth, then dry. Keep water away from ports and seams.

Can I boil silicone toys?

Solid silicone with no electronics, yes — a few minutes is enough. Never anything with a motor or battery.
