Boxed sets that combine several products — typically an oil or two, sometimes a candle, sometimes a toy. They exist for two reasons: they make an easy gift, and they are the cheapest way to sample several products from one brand.

What is usually in one

Oil-and-candle sets pair a massage oil with a candle in matching scents. The Shunga Secret Geisha is this type.

Multi-flavour sample sets give you several small bottles instead of one large one — the Shunga Fruity Kisses and the Kamasutra travel kit. If you have no idea which scent you want, this beats guessing on a full-size bottle.

Body-to-body gels are a different technique altogether. The Shunga Oriental gels and the Eros Nuru gel are thick, slippery preparations designed for full-body sliding contact rather than hand massage. They need a lot of product and a surface you do not mind getting wet.

Kits with a toy — the Je Joue Naughty Gift Set and the Shunga Naughtier Kit add a vibrator or ring to the oils.

As a gift

These are the easiest thing on the site to give, because nothing in a massage kit assumes anything about the recipient's body or preferences. An oil and a candle work for anybody.

If the gift is for a couple you do not know intimately, a kit without a toy is the safer choice.

The Bruma sets

Bruma's Xperience range — Piña Colada and others — pair a flavoured massage oil with a clitoral stimulating gel. Note that the stimulating gel is an active product: patch-test it as you would anything with a warming or tingling effect.

Two things to check before buying

Bottle sizes. Sample sets contain small bottles, and "seven products" can mean seven 10 ml bottles. Read the volumes rather than the count.

Display units. A couple of listings here are retail display boxes containing many identical units — the 24-candle display is one. Fine if you want twenty-four candles; not a gift set.

Nearby

Flavoured oils, candles and unscented oils individually, if you already know what you want.

Is a kit better value than buying separately?

Usually yes for sampling, and usually no if you already know which single product you want in full size.

Are the oils condom-safe?

No. Oil degrades latex. Keep massage oil for the massage and use a water-based lubricant if a condom is involved.

What is body-to-body gel?

A thick, very slippery gel used for full-body sliding contact. It needs a lot of product and a waterproof surface.

Do the kits come gift-wrapped?

They come in their own presentation boxes, which are designed to be given as they are.
