Warm water and mild soap clean most toys perfectly well. A dedicated cleaner earns its place in three situations: shared use, anything porous, and anything that has been used anally. Outside those, it is convenience rather than necessity.
Which cleaner for which material
This is the part most product pages skip.
- Silicone, glass, steel, ABS — non-porous. Soap and water work; a spray cleaner is faster and reaches texture that fingers do not. Eros All Purpose is the general-purpose choice.
- TPE and TPR — porous. They cannot be fully sterilised, which means a cleaner is doing damage control rather than disinfection. Replace these regularly and do not share them.
- Latex — needs its own product. Eros Fetish Line is formulated for latex, which ordinary cleaners can degrade.
Formats
- Spray — the standard. Two or three pumps, wipe, rinse. Femintimate and Hot Bio Cleaner are sprays.
- Foam — clings to texture instead of running off, which matters on ribbed or beaded surfaces. Pjur Toy Foam is the one here.
- Liquid — poured or wiped on. Nina Kikí and Intimichic come in 150 ml bottles.
Alcohol or not
Alcohol-based cleaners evaporate fast and disinfect thoroughly, but they dry silicone over time and can leave a residue that stings on contact with mucous membranes.
Eros Power without alcohol is the alcohol-free option here, and worth choosing if a toy is used internally immediately after cleaning rather than stored.
Size and how long it lasts
50 ml, 100 ml, 150 ml and 200 ml are all available. A 50 ml spray covers roughly forty to sixty uses depending on the toy, so it is not the false economy it looks like.
The Eros range shows the price curve clearly: 50 ml, 100 ml and 200 ml — the largest is under twice the price of the smallest.
How to actually use one
- Clean immediately after use, not the next morning. Texture is far harder to clear once anything has dried in it.
- Spray, leave for the time on the label — usually thirty to sixty seconds — then rinse.
- Rinse properly. Cleaner residue is the most common cause of irritation people blame on the toy.
- Dry fully before storing. Damp storage is what actually grows things.
- Take removable sleeves out and clean both sides.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need this, or is soap enough?
Soap and water are enough for non-porous toys used by one person. A cleaner is worth it for shared toys, porous materials, and after anal use.
Can I put a toy in the dishwasher or boil it?
Only solid silicone, glass and steel — and never anything with a motor, a battery or an electronic component. When in doubt, do not.
Is antibacterial the same as sterilising?
No. Antibacterial reduces; sterilising eliminates.
What about my own body?
Different product. See intimate cleaning for personal washes, which are formulated for skin rather than for silicone.
