This shelf holds products that clean three different things: the body, the inside of the body, and the toys. They sit together because our supplier groups them that way, so it is worth knowing which is which before you buy.
The three kinds, and which you need
Intimate washes and gels clean the outside. Products like the Bijoux Indiscrets prebiotic gel or the Femintimate exfoliating cleanser are formulated to be milder than ordinary shower gel. That matters: standard soap is alkaline and the vulva is acidic, which is why regular body wash so often causes irritation there.
Douches and enemas rinse the rectum before anal play. The range runs from the Addicted Toys set, which is a squeeze bulb, up to the Bathmate Hydrodouche, which connects to a shower head.
Toy cleaners are for silicone and ABS, not for you — although some, like the Eros Intimate cleaner, state on the label that they are alcohol-free and safe for skin as well as toys. Read the label rather than assuming.
A note on douching, said plainly
Rinsing before anal play is a preference, not a requirement, and doing it often or aggressively is not harmless — it strips the mucous layer that protects the rectum. If you do it:
- Plain lukewarm water only. No soap, no salt, nothing scented.
- Low volume. A bulb's worth reaches the area that matters. Deeper is not cleaner.
- Wait. Give it twenty to thirty minutes after the last rinse before play, so nothing is left to come back.
If you douche more than occasionally and find you need to, that is worth a conversation with a doctor rather than a bigger douche.
Do not use these to clean inside the vagina
The vagina maintains its own bacterial balance and clears itself. Washing inside it disrupts that balance and is associated with infection rather than prevention. Everything on this shelf described as an intimate wash is for external use — the Eros label says so directly.
What to use on toys
Warm water and unscented soap does the job for most non-porous silicone. A dedicated cleaner is worth it in two cases: porous materials like TPR and TPE, which hold moisture, and any toy shared between partners or between anal and vaginal use.
The toy disinfectants shelf covers that side in more depth, and the wider disinfection and maintenance section includes storage and material care.
Do I need to douche before anal sex?
No. Many people never do. It is about confidence more than hygiene, and the rectum is not the reservoir people imagine.
Can I use an intimate wash every day?
External washes formulated for the area, yes. Ordinary soap, no — that is the one that causes the irritation people are usually trying to fix.
Is alcohol-free important in a toy cleaner?
For silicone, yes. Alcohol dries the surface over time and can make it tacky. It also stings on skin, which matters if the same product touches you.
Can toy cleaner replace washing?
For a quick refresh between uses, yes. Before storage or after sharing, wash properly with warm water and soap as well. Then dry fully — moisture is what actually causes problems.
